For those missions where .308 is overkill and 5.56 is underpowered, the 6mm ARC seems to be a popular choice.
Thanks to Stag Arms, hunters can now use the familiar Stag 15 platform chambered in this versatile cartridge.
Welcome to the new Stag 15 Covenant rifle from Stag Arms.
From Stag Arms
Stag Arms is proud to present to you a new caliber rifle in 6mm ARC. The perfect middle ground between .308 and 5.56, the ARC gives you the biggest bang for your buck. Looking for a hunting round, but don’t want to lug .308 out into the field? 6mm ARC is for you. Looking for something with better ballistics than 5.56? The 6mm ARC is for you. Better ballistics than 5.56, less recoil than .308, yet hits with almost as much power – the Stag 15 Covenant in 6mm ARC is designed to be your overall new go-to.
The Stag 15 Covenant is available in two barrel lengths. There is a 16″ and an 18″ version, and each of those is available in left-handed or right-handed configurations.
The Stag 15 Covenant rifles use an MPI-inspected M16 bolt-carrier group with a salt-bath-nitride finish. Both rifles are chambered in 6mm ARC and come with a single 10-round aluminum magazine. Additionally, they feature oversized trigger guards to accommodate shooting gloves during those cold hunts.
These rifles are also covered by the Stag Arms Infinite Shot Barrel Guarantee, meaning they’ll replace your barrel for free if you shoot it out. Not sure anybody has actually cashed in on that warranty, but in the event you put that many rounds downrange, you’re covered.
The 16″ rifle uses a mid-length gas system and comes with a Magpul MOE Fixed Rifle stock. The 18″ version has a Magpul PRS stock installed and uses a rifle-length gas system.

6mm Ballistic Chart
The trajectory of the 6mm ARC cartridge performs fairly well out to 300 yards, then begins to drop off quickly. This drop is common with rifle cartridges, and it’s certainly not the worst drop you can find among similar-sized rounds. Out to 300 yards, the round shoots relatively flat and is fairly accurate, largely due to the bullet design.
6mm ARC Load | Bullet Drop – 200 Yards | Bullet Drop – 300 Yards | Bullet Drop – 500 Yards |
Hornady 103 Gr ELD-X | 0 inches | 7.6 inches | 43.7 inches |
Hornady 108 Gr ELD Match | 0 inches | 7.8 inches | 44.8 inches |
Hornady Black 150 Gr BTHP | 0 inches | 7.8 inches | 44.9 inches |
Regarding muzzle velocity, even at 200 yards, the 6mm ARC round maintains an impressive velocity somewhere in the 2,400 to 2,500 feet per second range. Out at 500 yards, the speed of the round drops off a bit, but it’s still maintaining excellent velocities. With a velocity of almost 2,000 fps at 500 yards, the cartridge shows its abilities for long-range engagements.
6mm ARC Load | Muzzle Velocity | Velocity at 200 yards | Velocity at 500 yards |
Hornady 103 Gr ELD-X | 2800 FPS | 2452 FPS | 1979 FPS |
Hornady 108 Gr ELD Match | 2750 FPS | 2421 FPS | 1971 FPS |
Hornady Black 150 Gr BTHP | 2750 FPS | 2417 FPS | 1963 FPS |
The 6mm ARC is a 5.56 AR-15 compatible cartridge, similar to the 6.5 Grendel. It accepts all the same components as the Grendel, including the magazine and bolt carrier group, so all you need is a 6mm specific barrel or complete upper receiver.
