What is a Survival Filter? | Guide

How many of our readers have placed themselves in a situation where they needed water and didn’t have a clean source? I can tell you that during a weekend hike in the Bridger-Teton National Forest last summer, I needed to use water purification tablets. I made a poor judgment in thinking I would be able to get to a proper water source within a day and the temp was too high for the amount of hiking and climbing I was doing. Luckily, I was prepared enough to carry water tabs with me but was pretty embarrassed and kinda scared that I had to use one 50 miles into the National Forest. This is where a company called, Survivor Filter comes in to provide a clean, renewable, and recyclable water filtration system.

This blog is going to give you the best understanding of how the Survival Filter works and why you give it a chance. I know from experience the last thing you want in a survival situation is to have to read a manual while you’re trying to save your life. A couple of my favorite things about the Survival Filter are how easy it is to use and how easy it is to store. Luckily, I haven’t run out of water since then, but I know if I ever am in a tough spot, the Survival Filter will be easy to use and not take up a lot of room. It’s important to know and understand what your filtration system filters out because no one wants E. Coli or heavy metals in your blood.

What is the Water Quality Association (WQA)?

The Water Quality Association is a government-funded organization that provides education, training, certifications, and outreach to Americans on the subject of water quality. The whole point of the WQA is to help ensure that every American has the opportunity to drink and cook with clean water. Their mission statement is to …provide technical and business training for the water quality improvement industry that supports the high professional and ethical standards the industry has set for itself." The WQA has certified Survival Filter as a legitimate company that provides safe and renewable drinking water.

Why Should I Choose Survival Filter?

Survival Filter is so much more than another outdoor company that sells water purification products. I appreciate the fact they truly believe in providing a sustainable water source that all people can take advantage of. Survival Filter has many different types of filtration systems, based on your lifestyle needs. For example, I recently purchased the 10K Chlorine In-Line Home Filter for my kitchen sink. It’s made a huge difference in the taste of my water and I feel I drink more water because it’s more convenient than portable drinking systems. I had to refill my water pitcher 3-5 times a day if I wanted to drink filtered water. Now, I don’t have to replace the filtration cartridge for about 3 years as long as I don’t drink more than 3 gallons/day.

One of my favorite products is the filter straw because it’s incredibly lightweight, portable, and easy to use. This is perfect for hiking, skiing, mountain biking, camping, or include it in a bug-out bag. You simply put the straw on the end of a water bottle or directly into a river or lake and drink just like any other straw. One of the drawbacks to such products is the slow drinking rate. Some products I’ve tried have taken me up to 30 minutes to get a 16 oz. bottle filled. The Survival Filter Straw allows for 7 oz. per minute to pass through for a nice full gulp of water each sip you take,

What Does the Pure 10k System Filter Out?

How many people have poured a glass of water and as you bring it to your mouth to drink, you notice a weird odor to the water? As Americans, I know we take clean drinking water for granted. I’ve traveled the world through my enlistment in the Air Force and my life as an Army Brat. I would make an educated guess more places around the world don’t have clean drinking water than do. Some places have the parasites and bacteria filtered but are unable to filter out the heavy metals located in the pipes and water. This is where that weird odor comes from and you can filter it all out with the Pure 10k Filter System.

What Does the Survival Straw Filter Out?

During my first tour in Iraq, I was told that no matter what, don’t drink the water or even brush your teeth with the water. Well, I didn’t have a water bottle and thought that if I used a little water to just brush with, I’d be fine. I was sorely mistaken and luckily got to the hospital quick enough to avoid further embarrassment from dysentery. I know there are probably hundreds of readers laughing because they know what it feels like to have an unending bathroom trip.

Whether you’re drinking from a stream, lake (especially), or river, you could catch many protozoa, such as dysentery, giardia, and cryptosporidium (crypto). Whichever one you catch will result in severe dehydration and unstoppable diarrhea that have killed millions throughout history. Avoid death by dehydration and always carry a water filtration system, such as Survival Filter. Not only will the straw filter out protozoa, but it will reduce the amount of metal that you drink.

ACTIVE Bottle Filter

One of the most commonly sold items in this market is a bottle filter. A bottle filter allows you to take it with you everywhere you go and it helps to encourage you to drink more water. The bottle filter will last in standard municipal water for 575 refills (100 gals) and 145 refills (25 gals) of lakes, rivers, streams, and ponds. I’ve owned a bottle filter for a decade now and the ACTIVE Survival Filter fixes those issues I had with other brands. For example, many companies filter at a similar rate, but they filter so slowly that it takes 30 minutes or so to fill up a bottle. This bottle filters 60 oz per minute (1.8 liters) which fills your bottle with safe drinking water within 30 seconds. Many other bottles will get mildew and have the smell of a boy’s football locker room inside every sip of your water. The ACTIVE filter has been specifically designed to prevent mildew and mold from forming to ensure you’re not drinking dirty gym sock water.

How Do We Know It’s a Legitimate Product?

When you consider the ramifications of drinking contaminated water, the most important question you can ask is if the product you’re about to trust your life on is legit. This was the reason that I chose Survivor Filter over everyone else. Survivor Filter is certified through the WQA and they even provide testing reports on all their products.  When I invest money into any company with a serious mission, I love it when they’re transparent and back up their claims with fact-based documentation. Give them a chance and like me, you’ll love your new purchase and be back for more.
