I’ve used and still own more gun cleaning brands than I have room for, but I firmly believe in being prepared over the latter. Today, I’d like to discuss my newest set of gun cleaning tools from Tipton. I got a nice deal at Sportsman’s Warehouse, so I bought everything I use normally to clean my guns for an incredibly affordable price.
I aim to share the top 7 Tipton products I’d buy again and highly recommend using on your gun collection. These items are in no particular order, Hope you enjoy!
1. Rapid Bore Guide Kit
The Rapid Bore Guide Kit lets you move faster once it’s in your barrel. My favorite part about the Rapid Bore Guide is how it perfectly aligns your cleaning rod inside your barrel. You can go full clean mode and scrub away with a barrel jag or run patches through with ease, over and over again. Once the rod is pushed into the RAPID, it immediately releases the patch. This feature ensures you don’t have to get solvent all over your clothes or hands while cleaning. The bore guide prevents your cleaning rod from bowing (bending) as you push your cleaning patches through the barrel. Too much tension with metal-on-metal contact inside your barrel or action could cause gouging and the slow deterioration of your barrel.
I’ve never used a product like this in all my years of cleaning and handling guns as an Airman and police officer. Most people think of a bore guide as a luxury item but don’t consider it necessary. Not only can it be a safety and longevity issue, but it can also make cleaning your gun much faster and more efficient and get it cleaner with less effort. There have been dozens of times when my rod would bend while cleaning because a patch got stuck due to a misalignment of my cleaning rod and barrel. This tool will make your life much easier, and you’ll probably clean your gun more often since it will be easier.
2. Tipton Power Swab-Pistol Cleaning Kit-500 Swabs
Cotton swabs are something that I like to use if I’m trying to get my barrel cleaned out of any excess oil or debris. One of the biggest reasons I recommend cotton swabs is they clean better than patches because they have more surface area and absorb oil better than most patches. I like using swabs when I’m done at the range and my place, where I can relax and get a thorough clean for my action, upper receiver, and barrel. Many people like the swabs because they’re easy to use, disposable, and are way easier to clean up after than patches. Every gun owner should have a package of swabs around because they also allow you to get into those hard-to-reach places in your action and receiver that patches can’t reach.
3. Tipton Bronze Shotgun Bore Brush Set
For those of you with shotguns, you already know how important it is to keep your barrel free of obstruction. Since pellets are different from brass-cased bullets, the smallest amount of debris inside your barrel can easily alter your wad. Many people think shotguns can go on like an AK-47, but having a great bore brush is essential to your safety and the health of the gun.
The Tipton Bronze Bore Brush Set is perfect for your shotgun collection and works great with the Tipton RAPID Bore Guide. The best feature of this kit is the container locks your brushes, and each brush is gauged specifically to ensure you have the right brush for each shotgun you own. The bristles and metal of the brush are made from premium phosphor bronze. It’s more durable than your stainless steel and lasts longer, so you don’t have to spend more on less quality.
4. Rifle Field Cleaning Kit
Anytime I go out to my property and zero in my guns, I end up bringing too much or not enough for the job. Part of that is my horrible memory, but part is me not wanting to carry my cleaning kits everywhere around the mountains. This rifle field cleaning kit comes with a coated steel cable with felt plugs, nylon brush w/pick, lint-free cloth, pre-saturated oil wipe, lens cleaning, grease packet, and disposable gloves. The best part about this is that it comes in a packet that can be easily put inside your pocket or carried anywhere.
5. Deluxe 1-Piece Carbon Fiber Cleaning Kit
You can have all the brushes, jags, patches, and guides you want, but if you don’t have a nice cleaning rod, you’re not going to get very far. I prefer the Tipton Carbon-Fiber Cleaning Rod because it’s incredibly lightweight and strong due to the carbon fiber. The handle is designed to keep your wrist and handle in the most comfortable and neutral position. The handle is designed to stay firm and still while the shaft moves freely to work through the barrel. The versatility of this cleaning rod is another great feature that allows you to use it on any gun you have in your collection with simple, tool-free adjustments.
The handle is even rated to handle a hammer hitting the back for more leverage, although I don’t recommend using it this way. I’d use the RAPID Bore Guide, and you’ll never have to over-exert yourself again. The Tipton cleaning rod will last you as long as you need it, and the carbon fiber will ensure that all that debris and particles from solvents and carbon don’t embed into the rod. In short, this rod isn’t going to break down from all the chemicals and products you have to use to keep your guns running right.
6. Tipton Maintenance Mat
Many people, including me for many years, used an old towel to place under my guns for cleaning. Unfortunately, towels soak up too much liquid and are impossible to clean. They will tear and shred until they are soaked and falling apart. The easiest way to prevent that is to spend $10 and buy yourself a Tipton cleaning mat. The Tipton Maintenance Mat also absorbs the solvents and liquids but never degrade the neoprene material. You can easily roll this mat up and take it anywhere, from the range to the field or your garage. The best part about this mat is you can easily wash it with a hose and your hand or in a bucket of water that you hopefully dispose of properly.
7. Tipton Felt Cleaning Pellets
I love the Tipton Felt Cleaning Pellets because my gun always feels much cleaner when I use these over patches. Place one of these pellets at the end of your cleaning rod and press through your barrel just like you would with a patch. These pellets are designed to fit each caliber barrel specifically, so make sure you use the correct size for each pistol. Since the pellet is compressed, it has more mass than it looks, allowing it to absorb more liquid and leaving no space for debris to hide. I don’t use these all the time, but I like to use them once every few times at the range to conserve my supply.
