Top 5 New Knives From S&W Under $50

There are so many knives for sale online that it’s incredibly difficult to find a solid knife for a great price nowadays. Smith and Wesson have been known as a great American company for decades, but not as many people have an understanding of their knife collection. I’m not going to lie and try and say that Smith and Wesson make better knives than SOG, but for the price, there’s a legitimate debate for choosing Smith and Wesson over some of the best knife companies. This blog will hopefully show you why it’s more than worth your money to buy any of these knives over their more expensive counterparts.

1. Smith & Wesson Black Ops Recurve Knife

The Blacks Ops Recurve knife features a 3.5" drop-point blade that is built from 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel for added durability and abrasion resistance. It’s important to get a blade that is shorter than 4" in most states because anything under 4" is considered legal to carry with you in public. The Black Ops Recurve knife is a folding knife with an overall length of 8" and features an ambidextrous pocket clip to accommodate us lefties, as well.

The overall weight of this knife is only 0.32 lbs and has a convenient finger flipper, an assisted opening mechanism that allows the blade to be opened rapidly.  The grip of the Black Ops is a G10 grip, which everyone knows by now will offer a more aggressive grip to prevent any slippage of the blade in your hand. Even if it’s wet or humid outside, the G10 grip will ensure that you don’t lose your grip, which will keep you safer than a traditional plastic grip handle. The lanyard hole is a good touch to allow you to carry this knife in your pocket and protect you from someone trying to grab your knife in a pickpocket move or in a fight. Overall, this knife is a legit knife that will be a great addition to your EDC collection, without breaking the bank.

2. Smith & Wesson M&P Extreme Ops Karambit Knife

The Smith and Wesson M&P Extreme Ops Karambit is one of the newest knives from the S&W collection. I think the Karambit knife is one of the coolest looking and unique knives on the market. Unlike a drop point blade, the tanto is designed to punch through harder, more rigid materials with a higher point and flatter grind for added durability. This knife is perfect for self-defense and will punch through multiple layers of clothing and even smaller bones in the body.

The thumb ramp on the top of the blade allows you to make very precise cuts if you wanted to use it as a hunting knife. The blade is only 3" long and features is considered a reverse tanto blade, capable of better control and precision with the thumb ramp. The knife only weighs 0.38 lbs and is 7.8" in overall length with blade deployed. The wide thumb loop allows the blade to be deployed, rapidly, while the safety lock on the G10 grip ensures the blade never accidentally deploys and cuts you or someone else without purpose.

3. Smith & Wesson Shield Knife

The Smith and Wesson M&P Shield knife is the smallest knife on the list and offers the best option for concealment in your EDC kit. With a 2.8" blade and an overall length of only 6.8" the M&P Shield knife can be concealed in anything from a purse, pocket, shoe, or attached to your waistline. The biggest difference between this knife and the others is the grip used is not a G10, but made of a neoprene rubber composite. I don’t think this is a big deal and the rubber grip provides a less aggressive handle for those who have a naturally tight grip and don’t want to wear your hand out. A tanto blade for stabbing through hard materials and a lanyard hole for multiple attachment types make this the perfect EDC knife.

4. Smith & Wesson 24-7 Fixed Tanto Knife

All 3 of the knives above are folding knives that are made to be versatile and capable of using as an EDC in almost any kit or collection. the Smith and Wesson 24-7 fixed tanto blade is not really made for an EDC with an overall length of 8.5" and a 4" blade. Personally, this knife is a great option to go hiking with because you can attach the sheath to your bag or your belt loop. The sheath also has a pocket clip to attach to your pants for a better tactical location in case of need. Even though this knife is a fixed blade, it’s incredibly lightweight at only 0.38 lbs.

5. Smith & Wesson 1st Response Carbon S.S. Assisted Opening Knife

This is the most impressive knife from Smith and Wesson, but I have it at 5 because it’s more expensive. All 4 blades above are made with 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel, but the 1st Response is made from high carbon stainless steel for incredible durability, capability, and longevity. The blade is a tanto blade and features serrations throughout the blade to cut through bone and harder material. At just under $50, this knife features a carbon fiber handle and a 4034 Black Oxide High Carbon Stainless Steel blade. The most impressive feature of this knife is how easy and safe it is to open and close with the M.A.G.I.C. assisted opening, ambidextrous thumb knobs, and stainless steel pocket clip. This knife has the features of a SOG knife, but at the price for everyday use as an outdoorsman or EDC.
