The phrase AR-Style pistol is thrown around a lot lately and it seems like everyone online has a different meaning for what classifies an AR pistol. I understand an AR-style pistol to be a pistol caliber (9mm, .40 S&W, .22LR), semi-auto, barrel shorter than 16″, an AR-style pistol grip, and a pistol brace for security and control. I can’t stress enough that knowing your state and federal laws are vital to legally owning an AR-style pistol or Short Barreled Rifle (SBR). Do your research and read our other blogs to ensure you know the laws pertaining to your gun.

Sig Sauer MPX
This is such an awesome gun that if I had my choice to own any on this list, it would be the Sig MPX submachine gun. The MPX is built around the carbon steel 3.5″ barrel. The carbon steel provides improved durability over standard Mil-Spec steel and it’s able to cut down on the overall weight of the gun. It’s then finished in a monolithic Elite Series Cerakote coating to ensure longevity, durability, and performance. The new MPX Copperhead comes with a Pivoting Contour Brace (PCB) to help stabilize the pistol.
The MPX is built with versatility in mind with the dual-sided selector switch, magazine release, charging handle, and bolt release. Featuring a locked rotating bolt design for an added safety mechanism. The MPX operates with a short-stroke gas piston to allow for any type of 9mm load you want to use without any adjustments or manipulation of the gas valve. Featuring a MIL-STD M1913 rail system allows the MPX to be outfitted with any optic or scope that you would like to use for even more versatility.

PSA AR-V
Palmetto State released their line of guns a few years back and I think for the most part people have received them well. My take on PSA guns is that they’re good enough to work and function properly most of the time, but they’re not made with the same high-quality metal of the major manufacturers, such as Sig and CMMG. Regardless, there is no way to get another AR-pistol with a 35 round capacity and M-Lok free-floating rail and handguard for under $1,000.
All metal surfaces are hard coat anodized and the barrel is nitride treated to ensure this pistol has optimal durability. The bolt carrier group features a Nitride treated 8620 steel bolt with an enhanced firing pin and external 5.56 style extractor. This feature ensures proper feeding and extraction are maintained at all times. The AR-V also features an SB Tactical SBA3 Pistol Stabilizing Brace to enhance the control and accuracy of the pistol without adding a lot of weight. If you’ve never shot a PSA gun, I encourage you to at least give one a chance if you’re in the market.

CMMG MK17 Banshee
The CMMG Banshee is able to accept Sig Sauer M17/P320 Magazines for added versatility and interchangeability. The MK17 Banshee is designed as a personal defense gun for home or property situations. A 21 round magazine with almost no recoil due to the blowback operation that absorbs some o the recoil of the operation. The Banshee features a delayed blowback operation to ensure the felt-recoil is minimal and doesn’t reach your body. The safety feature of having a last round bolt hold open provides better security and awareness. The Banshee is still considered lightweight at 5 lbs 12 oz and the shorter 8″ barrel provides the shooter. with respectable distance up to 100 yards with accuracy.

B&T APC9
The B&T APC9 is one of the coolest and smoothest operating AR-style pistols in the world. The trigger offers zero creep and an incredibly smooth, clean break. Featuring a non-reciprocating charging handle, removable M4 compatible grips, and Magpul M-Lok accessory slots. It’s also completely ambidextrous with its manual safety lever and charging handle. I don’t really like how far the charging handle is on the receiver, but they had to do that to keep the gun compact. With the M-Lok accessory rail, you can easily add a light, laser, or optic to this pistol for a tactical advantage in low-light environments.

Ruger Charger Takedown
The Ruger Charger Takedown is about as unique and light as it gets for an AR-style pistol. it’s chambered in .22LR and is meant as a plinking gun due to the lack of power. The Charger even comes with a bipod to enhance accuracy and maintain control when firing rapidly. If you’re in the market for a plinking gun, this is your chance to get a Ruger AR-style pistol for less than $600!
Featuring a cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1/2″-28 threaded muzzle provides better durability and versatility. The ability to easily install a silencer is a great feature to have to change things up and have fun. I live within a few miles of the national forest around me and I get a lot of varmint as a result. I wouldn’t use this on a coyote unless you wanted to scare it without killing the animal. However, pesky squirrels, groundhogs, skunks, and foxes would easily be taken with this pistol.
