FAB Defense is a tactical equipment and weapon accessories company for the State of Israel’s Military and Police. They have recently expanded to sell their products worldwide to include the American market. Fab Defense has worked directly with special operations soldiers from all over the world, including our Army Special Forces and police SWAT teams to create the most practical and functional weapon accessories.
Fab Defense focuses on improving the ergonomics, durability, and functionality of weapon systems that are used in combat environments. Fab Defense’s mission statement states they want, “to provide our customers, Law Enforcement and military personnel with the tools they need to defend their home, homeland and carry out their missions, providing the edge they need, insuring optimal safety & operational readiness”. I believe they’re living up to that mission objective with their new tactical gear and weapon accessories.
We will focus on the many different buttstocks that Fab Defense offers for multiple weapons, including Glocks, AR-15’s, and shotguns. They have 26 different models for different weapons, so we’ll do our best to cover as many as possible. Each of these products has been tested by the best of each nation’s tactical units from military to police under the most inhospitable conditions we can encounter on our planet. In order for Fab Defense to sell its products, it must pass the field test from some of the most elite operators in the world. This should give you the peace of mind that anything you buy from them will be exceptional quality gear.
The GL-Shock buttstock is designed to fit military M4 and M16 rifles. Fab-Defense built this buttstock to help reduce the felt recoil of the rifle by absorbing the shock from the operation. The GL-Shock accomplishes this goal with its combination of a built-in silicon chrome alloy spring, reinforced polymer composite frame, and ribbed rubber butt pad. One of the best features that stands out to me is the patented “anti-rattle” mechanism that prevents the stock from moving around. As every soldier who’s experienced the M4, the stock doesn’t ever feel as sturdy as you’d like and often rattles when you’re running and working in the field.
The overall feel of the buttstock is sturdy and doesn’t move or rattle as you’re running or rolling around. The design is incredibly low-profile and sleek with nothing that protrudes to catch on any of your gear or anything in your environment. The new slick and quickly operated inverted positioning lever and the integrated quick detach sling swivel connectors on both sides improve the rapidity of deploying the stock and the ergonomics of the buttstock.
GLR-16
The GLR-16 is different than the GL-Shock because it’s designed to fit any AR-15 model on the market today along with the M16. It’s built with a stock extension and has the same patented “anti-rattle” mechanism as the GL-Shock. The GLR is also built with 3 integrated slots for sling attachment with 1 in the front and 2 in the rear of the stock. this gives the operator more versatility to determine how they carry their rifle during a patrol. The 2 ambidextrous metal QD sling mount points also assist in adding versatility and quickness in attaching or removing a sling. The low-profile rubber butt pad was designed to give the shooter a quicker draw to their firing position, a more rigid, and stable grip into the shoulder. The GLR comes with a water-resistant storage compartment for 2 CR123 or AA batteries. The storage compartment gives the shooter a chance to carry backup optic batteries or NVG batteries without worrying about putting them on your body.
Adjustable Cheek Rest Kit for GLR-16 / GL-SHOCK
The GLR-16 and the GL-Shock offer an optional adjustable cheek riser with no additional tools required to install. Personally, I don’t ever feel the need to add a cheek riser on my AR, but I understand the need if the operator isn’t comfortable. This cheek riser is very sturdy and moves very smoothly and locks very easily with a turn of the knob. For an additional $13.50, you can add side Picatinny rails to your stock. At an overall price of $17.00, I think it’s a very affordable attachment if you’re one that feels the need for a cheek riser on your AR-style rifle.
GL-CORE – AR15/M4 Buttstock for Mil-Spec and Commercial Tubes
The GL-Core from Fab-Defense is similar to the GLR-16, except it’s much more streamlined and has a lower profile. The biggest difference is the GL-Core with the cheek riser will not fit the majority of AR-15 models. The GL-Core is fitted with an interchanging tube adapter to allow the buttstock to be fitted in both Mil-Spec rifles, such as the M4 and M16, and the civilian AR-15 models. The GL-Core is fitted with the same QD sling mounts as the GLR-16 and has the same inverted lever to ensure the buttstock doesn’t deploy accidentally from hitting the stock on trees or gear. It’s made of a fiberglass-reinforced polymer composite to reduce the weight of the stock and maintain the rigidity and durability of the stock.
GCCP – Cheek-Rest for the GL-CORE buttstock
The GCCP cheek rest is the official attachment for the GL-Core that features a 3-position rest cheek rest/riser. The GCCP is specifically designed to work in conjunction with some of the best optics and scopes for your AR-15 or Mil-Spec M4. The cheek riser ensures a more comfortable fit for your face to line up with the optics at different positions, instead of tilting your head to line up in the sight. It’s designed to relieve the stress on your neck and eyes, by giving you different heights and angles. You can install and/or make adjustments to this cheek riser without any additional tools for an easy and quick installation. I would call Fab-Defense if you’re wanting to place it on an AR because the stock could potentially obstruct the use of the charging handle on certain models. Fitting this cheek riser on an AK, however, will ensure there is no such obstruction.
GL-MAG – M4 ‘Survival’ Buttstock w/ ‘Built-in’ Mag Carrier
The GL-Mag M4 “Survival” Buttstock features a new and unique feature that allows you to carry an extra magazine inside the stock of the rifle. It will fit All standard 5.56×45 (.223 Remington) M16/M4/AR15 magazines. The Buttstock is made from the same fiberglass-reinforced polymer composite as the GL-Core and comes with a new quick-release button to instantly drop the spare magazine when you need it. This buttstock will increase your overall loadout without you having to add weight to your body or install MOLLE pockets on your belt or vest. The only downside I see is it’s designed to fit a 10-round magazine, not a 30-round magazine, so it’s really a last resort if you run out of ammo during a firefight. The GL-Mag also fits both Mil-Spec and commercial tubes for installation in any type of AR-style rifle.
ARP – Rubberized Assault Butt-Pad
The ARP rubber assault butt pad is specifically designed to fit the GL-SHOCK, GL-MAG, or GK-MAG Buttstocks. The whole point of this addition is to enhance the shoulder positioning whether you’re in full battle rattle (body armor) or not. The rigidity and flexibility of the butt pad allow for faster and more accurate target acquisition when facing multiple targets in CQB operations. It accomplishes this because it’s made from a non-slip rubber that sticks into your shoulder easily so you can quickly gain full control of your rifle as you pull up to fire.
GK-MAG
The GK-Mag “Survival Buttstock is the same as the GL-Mag, except it’s designed specifically for all 7.62×39 standard AK magazines, instead of the AR Mags. It features a unique inverted lever allowing a quick clip release. You’ll notice the low profile of the stock to ensure that it never snags on gear, branches, walls, or any other environmental obstacle you’ll face in the field. The magazine is situated away from the stock to ensure it never interferes with your shoulder positioning. It has the same reinforced polymer composite frame as the GLR-16 for unbreakable durability. It also has the same ambidextrous QD sling mount points that make Fab-Defense Busttocks so easy to install a sling and wear in different configurations.
MBA – Mono-Pod Buttstock Add-on
The MBA- Mono-Pod Buttstock Add-on fits the GL-SHOCK or GL-MAG Buttstocks and is designed to enhance the stability of the rifle during operation. It works with a 2-stage screw and spring base extension mechanism that instantly deploys when the button is hit. The purpose of the MBA is to provide additional support for a more steady hold and extremely accurate shooting platform. It has a built-in retaining mechanism that prevents the Mono-Pod from being deployed by accident. You’ll really have to press the button in if you want the pod to release. Once deployed, you can secure it to any surface because it’s made from a non-slip rubber composite that works in any environmental condition. This add-on is perfect for those who want added stability during shooting, but don’t want to use a bipod on the front of their rifle.
Conclusion
Fab-Defense has worked for years in developing weapon accessories that not only fit in the majority of weapon systems used across the world but are practical in combat. From the GL-Shock that is designed to reduce the felt-recoil of your rifle, to the GL-Mag that gives you more ammo capacity, they have really thought of everything.
