Ballistic Missiles Fired From Iran At US Bases In Iraq

Multiple cruise missiles fired from inside Iran have targeted multiple US bases across Iraq. US officials have confirmed the attacks and Iranian officials have already taken credit for them.

The targeted installations include Erbil in Kurdistan and al Assad air base in al Anbar. No reports on friendly casualties as of yet.

Iranian state TV reported that the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, “has hit U.S. Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq with tens of missiles.” The IRGC warned the US of more “crushing responses in case of new aggression,” according to CNN.

The following video is unconfirmed.

Rockets Impact Multiple Bases Housing US Troops In Iraq

Rocket attacks have targeted multiple bases currently housing US troops in Iraq on Saturday, according to Iraq military officals.

Reuters cited an Iraqi military report that claimed several rockets impacted inside Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, as well as the Jadriya neighborhood. No casualties were reported in that attack, but videos and images circulating on social media show property damage to nearby residential areas.

The New York Times reported that two Katyusha rockets detonated inside Balad Air Base, which is situated approximately 50 miles north of Baghdad in Salahuddin province. No casualties were reported.

The attacks come on the day of Iranian Quds Force commander Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani’s funeral. Soleimani and multiple Iranian loyalist PMU commanders were killed in a US airstrike just days ago for facilitating attacks on the US Embassy in Baghdad and against the K1 military base in Kirkuk. Iran has vowed to retaliate.

New Airstrike Kills 5 Members Of Iranian-backed PMU North Of Baghdad

An airstrike has reportedly targeted a convoy of the Iranian-led Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU) in the vicinity of Taji, just north of Baghdad, killing at least five militants and wounding three.

A PMF spokesman acknowledged that a convoy belonging to the militia’s medical unit was struck, but denied that any senior leaders of the paramilitary group were killed in the attack.

No entity has yet claimed responsibility for the operation. The Associated Press quoted an anonymous U.S. government official, who stated that the airstrike was not carried out by the American military. An anonymous source cannot be verified, but if true, could mean the strike may have been carried out by Israel. The Israeli Air Force conducted at least eight airstrikes on PMU targets in Iraq over a three month period in 2019.

This deadly airstrike comes just 24 hours after the US killed the Iranian Islamic Republican Guard’s Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani, as well as multiple high-ranking PMU commanders, in a precision airstrike on or near Baghdad International Airport.
